Fedora 43 now available for vps servers!

Users now have additional Operating System choices to use with Fedora VPS servers. Fedora 43 has just been added to the available OS templates for VPS servers. This template is available for immediate deployment and can be selected from the “OS Reinstall” menu in the Server Panel for existing servers.

What’s new in Fedora 43?

Fedora Linux introduced a substantial refresh across the desktop, installer stack, developer tooling, and security pipeline. The release shipped in late 2025 and serves as the upstream proving ground for many technologies that later land in Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Here are the biggest changes in Fedora 43:

GNOME 49 + Wayland-only Workstation

Fedora Workstation 43 ships with GNOME 49 and removes the traditional X11 GNOME session by default, pushing users fully toward Wayland. This is one of the biggest desktop architecture transitions Fedora has made in years.

GNOME 49 itself adds:

  • Improved multi-monitor handling
  • Better screenshot and screen recording workflows
  • Focus Mode for distraction reduction
  • Background process throttling for improved battery life
  • Refined Settings UI and overall desktop polish

KDE Plasma 6.4

The KDE edition received Plasma 6.4, continuing Fedora’s aggressive adoption of modern KDE technologies and Wayland improvements.

New Anaconda Installer Improvements

The installer experience was modernized further:

  • Wider deployment of the new Anaconda WebUI
  • DNF5-backed package installation
  • GPT partitioning enforcement on UEFI systems
  • Removal of legacy DNF modularity support

This makes Fedora installs feel significantly cleaner and more modern than older GTK-based Anaconda releases.

RPM 6 and Updated Core Toolchain

Fedora 43 upgraded major low-level tooling:

  • RPM 6
  • Python 3.14
  • Perl 5.42
  • Newer GCC/LLVM stacks
  • Linux kernel 6.17 in final builds

For developers, Fedora 43 became one of the earliest mainstream distros to standardize around many next-generation language runtimes.

Reproducible Builds & Supply Chain Security

One of the most important under-the-hood changes was Fedora’s push toward reproducible RPM builds, targeting roughly 99% reproducibility.

This improves:

  • Software supply-chain integrity
  • Binary verification
  • Detection of tampering or malicious build injection
  • Trustworthiness of packages

This initiative accelerated after broader Linux ecosystem concern over supply-chain attacks like the XZ backdoor incident.

Fedora Atomic / bootc Improvements

Fedora 43 also expanded work around immutable and image-based deployments:

  • New Rust rewrite of Greenboot
  • Better support for bootc container-native operating systems
  • Improvements for rpm-ostree systems

These changes matter especially for:

  • Cloud-native deployments
  • Edge computing
  • Immutable infrastructure
  • Kubernetes-focused environments

Other Notable Changes

Additional updates include:

  • New default wallpapers/themes
  • Improved ARM and modern hardware support
  • Better battery optimization
  • Updated virtualization stack
  • More polished Flatpak and container workflows

Why Fedora 43 Was Significant

Fedora 43 marked a major “transition release”:

  • Full commitment to Wayland
  • Continued shift toward immutable/container-native Linux
  • Strong emphasis on supply-chain security
  • Rapid adoption of next-gen Linux desktop technologies

For many Linux enthusiasts and developers, Fedora 43 was one of the clearest previews of where the broader Linux ecosystem is heading over the next several years.
